Sure, water quality can be determined through water testing, but what about using a biotic index instead? In this hands-on workshop, we will explore methods where students determine the water quality of a local river and analyze changes over the course of the river by collecting aquatic invertebrate samples. You will learn what a biotic index is, how to collect samples in a river with a kick net, and practice sorting and identifying macroinvertebrates to determine water quality.
